Make room in your freezers!! The date of execution has been set for July 17 at 8 a.m.
Please God let them all live until then.
I just got off the phone with a friendly Amish woman. We decided (for once) that we have enough going on, so we’re going to allow the professionals to kill and process our chickens this round.
I am not-so-secretly glad. I feel like it takes more than a whim–at least an apprenticeship or something– to learn how to properly slit the throats, remove the organs, cut the legs off and wrap up the skin so perfectly around the birds.
It is an art to be learned–on another day. I might ask them if I can kill one, though. I don’t want to get out of all the dirty work.
I have devoted so much emotional and physical strength to keeping these chickens alive. It is weird to switch gears all of a sudden.
I have to say, though, I am a much more efficient and sanitary predator than a feral cat.
We need to figure out if we’re going to have a Meat-N-Greet prior to the execution. I hope you guys still really want these things, because it is soooo happening :)
