i am

1.) on vacation

2.) the happiest person on the planet

We have been busy working on the house and surrounding land. My back hurts. My hands are splintered and sore. I have been wearing sturdy boots. I feel fantastic. Like a ranch hand.

When it gets dark, we take showers, eat, and settle down to watch a movie or knit or read. There is Advil. and some hot tea or cocoa.

I earn a living doing something relatively easy on my body. I count myself lucky because I can enjoy putting in a few days of good, hard work on my terms.
But where has all that great cynicism gone?

When it comes down to it, we are pretty lucky that we have jobs that require little physical labor. I’ve done both, and while making a living with your back has its rewards, making a living with your mind has a whole other set of enjoyments.

I have yet to make a living using my mind.

In other news: I returned home at 2:30 a.m. today, by 10 a.m. took my car to the repair shop and by 2:30 p.m. found out the repairs are going to run me $650.

It’s so nice to be back.

Ugh, sorry to be such a dark cloud of negativity. :( Glad to hear you’re enjoying your time off, and I love your picture of your niece. I want an adult-sized version of that costume.

I’m knitting you one for New Year’s, J-Wray.

Glad you’re having a good vaca. It’s always nice to be away from the office for a while and remember what it’s like to be a human with a real soul again rather than a chain-smoking, caffine guzzling journalist with a strong possibility of becoming addicted to black-tar heroin.
    Have a good Christmas!

    thanks, doodes.

dubs, this blog is the Virtual Place for Gripes, (hence my need to acknowledge any positive posts i may put up here) — so please, lay it on thick. no apologies. so sorry ’bout the coche.

    coche is spanish for car!

Aw, thanks, Merlin! That would be craftastic!

Total car cost ended up being $689. Stupid taxes.

I just calculated my post-tax income, and this year, 25 percent has gone to either car repairs or dog vet bills. I think next year, to lower costs, I’m going to need to rid myself of one of those. I’m gonna end up riding Sollie around or buying toys for my car. I can’t decide which.
